The approach stems from the analysis of actual use of sailboats in Britanny which is characterised by :
1. Family ballads by the day or the weekend
2. Local regattas
3. Sometimes cruises of a week or two
To ensure the family vocation, idbmarine had identified five basic elements :
• A cockpit with exceptional dimensions which has been designed to separate the functions of pleasure sailing and maneuvers in the back, idleness and discovery of the marine environment in a safe at the centre: Malango can easily receive 6 people on board.
• A tender instantly available: In addition to the ease of implementation at anchor (the outboard motor of the tender can be stored in it before it was "swallowed" inside the tunnel), it's acts as a major security asset that only Malango propose in this category.
• A sailboat with a reassuring stability, extremely easy to manoeuvre with his self tacking jib (a real pleasure to use), its asymmetrical spinnaker and all maneuvers around the helmsman.
• A luminous and comfortable interior, with a generous and an independent toilet.
• An powerful enough in-board engine to overcome periods of calm and manoeuvre easily at the port.
The "local regatta" aspect is not neglected, for navigation training on a fun sailboat. For that, idbmarine gave Malango three strengths:
• A stable and powerfull hull, designed for offshore racing, able to provide a high level of performance in a very secure boat.
• An effective standing rigging to exploit effectively Malango in all sailing conditions
• A strong and efficient spar with twin aft swept spreaders.
For cruising, idbmarine returned to the simple rules that allow comfortables cruises without turning the boat in a mobil-home :
• A luminous and wide interior: the big side windows, opening deck hatch in the cockpit and on the front of the roof highlight the volume of Malango.
• A functional galley, ergonomic and complete (Freshwater under pressure, cooler,…).
• An isolated head compartiment : GRP washbassin, marine toilet, locker for bathroom accessories, hooks and mirror,
• 4 berths for the Malango 8.70
• 6 berths (double berth in the large aft port cabin) for the Malango 9.99
• A chart table with removable faceplate for navigation electronics.
To conciliate performances, small draft and light displacement is the squaring of the circle .... except with a swinging keel!
• By shifting the dynamic hull downwind through the deformed shell provided by the heel, the center of buoyancy moves and acts as a lever arm on the stability of original ballast. To maximize stability, the ballast is placed as low as possible .... by imposing a important draft.
• The swinging keel allows in down position an effective anti-drift plan but also shift the ballast in the right place
• Assisted by an electro-hydraulic device, the keel drop down/up in 20 seconds .... effortless ...
• Safety valves releasing the hydraulic system in case of a severe impact on the keel and thus preserve the integrity of the boat.
• Once the keel raised, it is possible to come as close to the beach or put the boat on the dock with his crutches.
This synthesis is now offered through Malango 8.70 and 999 that combine in addition to all the points mentioned, a dynamic and original aesthetics.
